Ballistic helmet surplus and accessories

The ballistic helmet industry is as wide as the helmet accessories market. And for obvious reasons too. Most ballistic helmets are often quite heavy in themselves. Hence, an additional attachment of gears and accessories can make the ballistic helmet even heavier and discomforting. For this, accessories are crafted externally and to be used optionally as required by the wearer.

There are several accessories that can be used with ballistic helmets. Here are some of the most commonly used ones.

1. Mounts and Rails

Mounts are simply any form of attachment that can be used to house another gear or attachment on a helmet. Mounts can be pouches or packs that are attached to the ballistic helmet. Some mounts that come in shroud form are often used to attach Night Vision Googles to a ballistic helmet.

Rails can either be plastic or metallic in design. They are also used for mounting other gears and accessories on a ballistic helmet. Gears such as tactical lights and lasers can be strapped on to the rails.

2. Counter Weight Packs

These packs are used to ensure that the ballistic helmet has a balanced weight distribution. Counter weight packs can also be used to carry batteries or other tactical gears.

3. Pads

Helmet pads are designed to provide more comfort to the wearer. It is also used as a shock absorber mechanism for bullet impacts. Pads are often made out of soft and mild materials that ensure that the helmet sits comfortably on the head. Some helmets can also accommodate liners.

4. Face Shield

While a lot of ballistic helmet users prefer a visor, many others love the idea of having a protective gear that is not so close to the eyes. Face shields can either be ballistic or non-ballistic.
